Bali, Indonesia– Bali, also known as the Land of the Gods, is an island and province of Indonesia which is a six hour flight from Australia. The island is home to the majority of Indonesia’s Hindu population and is most know for its traditional and modern dance, arts, music, diving and surfing. Part of the Coral Triangle, over 500 reef building coral species can be found around the island, making for prime diving opportunities. EAT- Fat Chow
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Kuta’s notoriously raucous Poppies Lane II, Fat Chow creates reasonably priced and unbelievably flavorful Asian Fusion cuisine in a hipster setting. Must try dishes are the spicy and fragrant Thai Green Curry with chicken, assorted vegetables, jasmine rice and Thai spices, the textured Hawker Pad Thai with Thai noodles, stir-fried seafood, crunchy peanuts and tamarind sauce, and the succulent Chicken Satay. Notable drinks are the classic Mojito with brown sugar and the Pink Geisha with vodka, triple sec, strawberries and mango.
STAY- W Retreat and Spa Bali
The W Retreat and Spa Bali is located on the beach in upscale Seminyak. The breathtaking resort consists of 237 guest rooms, suites and villas that are within walking distance of Bali’s chicest boutiques, fine dining, and nightlife. The award winning resort has been voted the best of World Luxury Spas in the world as well as Asia’s Best Resort Residences for 2015. While the resort has many special offers, our favorite is the Birth Year Does Matter offer in which you pay your birth year (if you were born in 1984 you would pay $84) on your last night for a stay of three nights or more. Included in this deal is complimentary daily breakfast for two, gym access, free Wi-Fi, and free access to the Hot Stone Bath and Cold Plunge at AWAY Spa.
SURF- Rip Curl School of Surf (Legian)
With its endless wave and swell producing coastline, Indonesia is a surfer’s paradise. With no major landmass to block or alter the swells that are produced from the Southern Indian Ocean, Indonesia produces some of the best waves on earth. Made popular by the classic 70’s surf film “The Morning of the Earth,” the beaches of Kuta and nearby reefs are surfed regularly by surfers of all levels.
