Selene wines are produced by UC Davis Enology graduate Mia Klein. The name Selene comes from Greek Mythology and is known as the mother goddess of the full moon. Mia is considered by many to be one of best winemakers in Napa Valley. As a winemaking consultant, some of her previous clients include cult wineries Dalla Valle, Araujo, and Spottswoode. In addition to producing Selene, Mia also makes wine for a few other boutique wineries, including top Napa winery Bressler Vineyards.
The fruit for this wine comes from the famous Hyde Vineyard in Carneros. In comparison to Napa, the cooler climate of Carneros is ideal for producing classic Sauvignon Blanc. On the nose this wine exhibits bright citrus fruit notes. The body consists of lime zest and exudes a silky texture with a slightly creamy note. This wine holds great grip with solid acid and a wonderful finish. The melon and lime flavors of this wine pair nicely with a variety of foods, including sea bass, Ahi tartare with avocado, grilled shrimp or goat cheese. This is the perfect wine for a warm spring day.
